At Vigil, we prioritize your privacy and are committed to safeguarding your personal data. This Privacy Policy describes how Vigil collects, processes, and protects information when you use the Vigil mobile app.

To provide our identity protection and exposure monitoring services, we collect and process the following information:

Email Address Queries: When you perform a manual scan, you provide an email address.
Privacy Guard: For maximum security, the email address is hashed locally on your device using SHA-256 before being processed on the backend where applicable, and queries are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. We do not store your search history for profiling purposes.
Account Credentials: If you authenticate using Google Sign-In, we collect basic profile details (such as your email address and UID) to associate and synchronize your scan limit quotas across devices.

Device Identifiers: Android ID (Settings.Secure.ANDROID_ID) is collected to enforce device-level limits and prevent referral program fraud.

2. Data Retention and Security

Account-related metadata such as scan counts and referral metrics may be retained while your account remains active.
We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, cryptographic hashing, and integrity verification to protect information from unauthorized access or disclosure.

3. Third-Party Links and Services

Vigil may contain links to external security resources, advisories, and informational websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of third-party services and encourage users to review their respective privacy policies.

4. Children's Privacy

Vigil is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If such data is discovered, it will be removed as soon as reasonably possible.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected within the app and by updating the date shown below.
